Spring 2023 Rec Soccer Update and Additional Information

Spring 2023 Rec Soccer Update & Additional Information

Our upcoming rec season has over 340 players registered, which is absolutely incredible.  There has also been a great response with parents volunteering to coach.  We appreciate all that stepped up and volunteered.  This initiative makes creating teams run so much smoother.  Our Rec Director, Heather Shappard, may reach out to a group if an age group or team has a specific need.

We are currently in the process of creating teams.  However, we wanted to share a few reminders and additional information to common questions we receive.  Rosters will be posted on this site during the evening of April 2nd.  Steps for finding this information will be available in the near future.  An email will go out either that evening or the next day with your player's team as well.

Coaches will also be contacting their teams shortly after teams are posted to get practices going.  The first weekend of games will be Saturday, April 15th.  Game schedules will also be posted that first week of April as well.

Birth Year and Age Groups  Teams are formed by player birthday year.  Age groups have multiple birth years grouped together.  Players are not allowed to play up or down.  Meaning, a player with a 2013 birth year will play U11 and cannot play down with U8 players born in 2014-2016 or up with Middle Schoolers with 2008-2011 birthdays.

  • U5/U6 (2017-2018)
  • U8 (2015-2016)
  • U11 (2012-2014)
  • Middle School (2008-2011)

Shin Guards  Every player is required to wear shin guards.  They can be any style you'd like as long as they are meant for soccer. Players will be checked before each game by the game official.

Cleats  Younger players may choose to wear cleats, but can also wear regular gym shoes.  Typically, the older kids prefer to wear cleats to achieve better footing on the fields.  However, if your player wears cleats, they must be SOCCER CLEATS.  Baseball and football cleats are not allowed due to their "spike" shape and location.  They are not meant to be used to kick and can injure other players.  Officials will check player shoes/cleats prior to beginning each game.  If the wrong style cleat is worn, the player may change into approved footwear if possible or will be required to sit the game.

Ball Size  Players should bring their own ball to each practice.  Different age groups use different size balls.

  • U5/U6:Size 3
  • U8: Size 3
  • U11: Size 4
  • Middle School: Size 5

Practices  Practice days, times, and locations are scheduled by coaches.  They will be provided with a list of locations available to hold practices during the week.  With the younger teams, it is often helpful if two teams practice together which allows for collaboration among coaches and scrimmages.
