GSC travel teams play in the ILLOWA Youth Soccer League, which is a competitive youth soccer league operating in Western Illinois and Eastern Iowa. Players eligible to tryout were born in the years 2011 through 2018. Travel teams are for players and parents that want more competition than the GSC Rec program offers. This involves travel for games and tournaments.
All players interested in playing GSC Travel Soccer must register by June 10th.
The Registration "2025-2026 GSC Travel Soccer" is not currently available.
Below is helpful information regarding Illowa league games, practices, tournaments, uniforms, and cost.
Most games are played in Davenport, Moline, East Moline, Geneseo, Galesburg, Muscatine and occasionally elsewhere. Games are scheduled during scheduling meetings prior to the start of each season. Games are played on Saturday and Sunday with the following possible game times 10:30, 12:00, 1:30, 3:00 and 4:30.
Fall Season: Practice generally starts early August with games beginning at the end of August continuing to the end of October. Players generally play 8-10 league games with 1 or 2 games a weekend. It is possible that some weekends will not have games.
Spring Season: Practice generally starts late March with games beginning mid April continuing to the 1st weekend in June. Players generally play 6-8 league games, with 1 to 2 games a weekend. It is possible that some weekends will not have games.
Head coaches determine which tournaments their team will play. Tournaments may be played in or near the following places, Quad Cities, Muscatine, Burlington, Cedar Rapids, Rockford, Peoria or in nearby states. Travel teams (depending on the age group) typically play 2-4 tournaments in the fall and 1-2 tournaments in the spring. All players are expected to participate in these tournaments unless otherwise communicated by the head coach. If a player has a conflict, it is vital they inform their player’s coach immediately, as this could cause issues with tournament rosters.
Where tournaments are played and how fees are collected, which are separate from the $125 registration fee, is handled by each team's Head Coach. Typically per player cost for each tournament is between $30-50 depending on the roster size and age division. The younger divisions are on the cheaper end of the price range. However, we are very fortunate that Seth Ernst Memorial Soccer Slam donates funds to be used towards a tournament in the fall and spring for each team. This year, the Geneseo Soccer Club will also be contributing to assist in tournament fees for the fall and spring season as well. Some teams do participate in fundraising opportunities as well.
Travel teams generally practice 2 nights a week. Practice day, time, and location are determined by the coach in collaboration with GSC to ensure teams are practicing on appropriate size fields. Teams practice at Culver Valley, Millikin, Southwest, Hazelwood, GMS, and other locations in or near town. Practices are typically 90 minutes long. Younger teams may start out with shorter practices and build toward longer ones. Some teams wear practice jerseys during practice.
Player attendance at practice is required. If your player will miss practice due to illness, a school event, or for any other reason, you must communicate this with their coach as soon as possible. How you communicate with your child's coach will vary from team to team. Coaches will share their preferred method at the beginning of the season.
$125 Registration Fee: Covers the ILLOWA league dues for both Fall and Spring seasons, as well referee costs, field preparation/maintenance, insurance and other club expenses.
Uniform: May not need to be purchased every year if previous year’s still fits. All new players must purchase a uniform kit. Youth kits are $66 and Adult kits are $90. You have the option to order additional shorts. Players are responsible for purchasing their own solid black game socks. Additional information about uniforms can be found here: https://www.geneseosoccerclub.org/uniforms
Tournament Fees: Typically between $30 – $50 per player per tournament. The actual price will vary due to tournament roster size, age division, and if the team does any fundraising to offset cost. Some teams do fundraise, while others do not. Additional funds from GSC and Seth Ernst Memorial Soccer Slam are also contributed each season.
Travel expenses during tournaments are in addition to the registration fee and tournament fees and not covered by the team or club.
