The GSC Rec Soccer Program serves Geneseo preschool through middle school students. There are two seasons, fall and spring. Each season consists of 6 games with 350 and 400 participants per season. All games are held on Saturday mornings at Richmond Hill.
Registration will open February 1, 2026
Teams are formed based on the player's birthday year. Age groups often have multiple birth years grouped together. Players are not allowed to play up or down. Meaning, a player with a 2015 birth year will play U11 and cannot play down with U8 players born in 2018-2019 or up with Middle Schoolers with 2011-2014 birthdays.
U5/U6 (2020-2021)
U8 (2018-2019)
U11 (2015-2017)
Middle School (2011-2014)
Practice days, times, and locations are scheduled by coaches. They will be provided with a list of available locations where they may hold practices during the week and determine what day and location works best. Locations are first come first serve and cannot be reserved, with the exception of the Hazelwood field. With the younger teams, it is often helpful if two teams practice together. This allows for collaboration among coaches and additional players to scrimmage.
Parents of U5/6 players must remain at practice and help the coach when needed. No drop offs are permitted. Parents may drop players off or stay and watch for U8, U11, and middle school divisions. However, if there are issues with a player's behavior during practice, coaches may require that a parent remain at practice. (Policy updated 1/1/25)
Shin Guards: Every player is required to wear shin guards. They can be any style you'd like as long as they are meant for soccer. Players will be checked before each game by the game official.
Cleats: Younger players may choose to wear cleats, but can also wear regular gym shoes. Typically, the older kids prefer to wear cleats to achieve better footing on the fields. However, if your player wears cleats, they must be SOCCER CLEATS. Baseball and football cleats are not allowed due to their "spike" shape and location. They are not meant to be used to kick and can injure other players. Officials will check player shoes/cleats prior to beginning each game. If the wrong style cleat is worn, the player may change into approved footwear if possible or will be required to sit the game.
Ball: Players should bring their own ball to each practice. Different age groups use different size balls.
U5/U6:Size 3
U8: Size 3
U11: Size 4
Middle School: Size 5
Our rec program is runs exclusively with volunteer parent coaches. During registration, we ask parents to consider coaching their child's team. Teams may not hold practice or games if there is not a coach assigned to their team. Volunteering in advance makes team creation run much smoother. Our Rec Director, Heather Shappard, may reach out to a group if an age group or team has a specific need. Head coaches will be reimbursed their players registration fee at the end of the season.
Rec games are held on Saturday mornings typically between 8:30 and 12:00 at Richmond Hill. Occasionally there may be an afternoon game, but that will communicated in advance. There are 6 games in both the spring and fall season.
Rec game times vary in length depending on the age group. Since some teams contain a group of multiple ages, we've broken games down into quarters. (Updated April 2024)
